Summer in Maui: Planning Days from Kihei

Summer in Maui can include a beach morning, a market visit or an evening performance, with time at the condo between outings. Choose the activities your group will enjoy and leave some days flexible. School-holiday dates alone do not tell you how much everyone wants to do.

Spend a morning at Kamaole Beach II

The beach is beside Hale Pau Hana, with no road between the property and the sand. A walk or short visit can fit before lunch at the condo. Ground-floor lanais open onto the lawn above the beach; upper-floor units have a different route downstairs.

Before entering the water, ask a lifeguard about conditions and read the posted signs. Summer does not guarantee calm surf or suitable snorkeling. Supervise children closely and choose a land-based activity when conditions do not suit the group.

Make a market visit the outing

The Upcountry Farmers Market currently lists Saturday service from 7 to 11 a.m. at 55 Kiopaa Street in Kulamalu Town Center, Makawao. Check the organizer's latest notice before leaving Kihei.

Plan separately for the drive and time to browse. Ask vendors what is available that week rather than expecting a particular crop throughout the summer. Buy food you can store and use during the remainder of your stay.

Look for a show or a creative activity

Check the official calendars at ProArts in Kihei and the Maui Arts & Cultural Center in Kahului. Pick an event that suits your group, then read the ticket, age and participation requirements before reserving.

A workshop and a performance need different preparation. Ask what materials are supplied and whether a parent must stay for a children's activity. Our music and arts guide covers venue planning.

Keep meals manageable

A kitchen gives you a place for breakfast, snacks and an easy meal after an outing. You can still choose a restaurant on the days when nobody wants to cook. Check the equipment in your particular condo before shopping for a more involved dinner.

Give longer excursions their own day

A summit visit, a boat trip and the Road to Hāna have different travel and booking requirements. Choose one main outing rather than trying to combine them. Leave room for meals, delays and the return journey.

Leave an afternoon free

Read on the lanai, spend time on the lawn or decide on dinner without another reservation to reach. Check the property rules when using shared seating, grills and the pool. Keep food and drinks outside the pool area.
