Hale Pau Hana Then & Now: Some Things Never Change

You’ve all heard the saying, “The more things change, the more they stay the same.” This is certainly true for Hale Pau Hana, and it’s a good thing! For over five decades we’ve been honored to give our our guests and owners a home away from home — a place to escape, relax, and to share the aloha spirit.

While there have been some notable improvements around the property over the years, there is something timeless about this piece of paradise and one of the reasons why our guests return year after year. Take a look at these the pictures below — some taken 50 years apart — and we think you’ll see what we mean!

The Property: 1974 & Now

You’ll find more flowers around the grounds and the palm trees have certainly grown, but the Low Rise, the High Rise, and Anchor Cove are as recognizable as a city skyline. And seeing the kiawe tree still thriving is always a welcome sight for our long-time ‘ohana!

The Pool: Early 1970s & Now

Did you know that guests did water aerobics in the early years? There are still some motivated ‘ohana that hop into the pool to get their heart rate going, but you’re more likely to see lots of lounging these days!

The Loungers: 1974 & Now

Speaking of loungers, everyone has their favorite chair! Back in the day you would hear the sounds of a friendly game of shuffleboard while you soaked up the sun, shown in the first photo below. It was replaced by more lawn many years ago, so now all you’ll hear is the sound of those gentle South Kihei waves.

The Tower: 1972 & Now

There’s no mistaking the “Tower” at Hale Pau Hana. With its classic curve, private lanais, and magical ability to catch that afternoon light just right, this building is a timeless work of architecture.

The Beach: 1969 & Now

Whether you get up at first light to jog this strip of sand in the morning, or prefer to take a slow stroll at sunset, we can all agree that Kamaole Beach II is everyone’s favorite beach!

The Sunset: 1976 & Now

It was hard to choose from all the incredible sunset photos taken over the years, but we knew we found the ones when we saw these! Some things never change at Hale Pau Hana, and we sure are thankful for that.
